Knowledge is the thing that changes outcomes. A supervising social worker who understands the EHCP process can support a carer through it. A foster carer who knows what a school should be doing can ask the right questions. A manager who understands the legal framework can make better decisions when cases get difficult.
We design and deliver bespoke training for agency staff and foster carers, built around what your agency and your people actually need, not adapted from a generic SEND programme.
Training for agency staff
SEND awareness for social workers and supervising social workers A grounding in the SEND system for professionals whose primary framework is care rather than education. What the key legislation requires, how the education system identifies and responds to need, and where the two frameworks intersect in a fostering context.
EHCP literacy A practical working knowledge of the EHCP process — what a good plan looks like, what inadequate provision sounds like, how to support a carer through an assessment or review, and when to escalate.
Working across agencies without losing the child When a child moves placement, responsibility for their education can fall into the gap between placing and receiving authorities. This session focuses on how to keep the child’s educational continuity at the centre when systems and agencies are pulling in different directions.
Understanding the emotional context Working with children who have experienced trauma, loss, and disruption — and with the carers who support them — demands more than procedural knowledge. This session explores the emotional landscape of foster care and what it means for how professionals show up in their work.
Training for foster carers
All foster carers approved in England are required to complete the Training, Support and Development Standards within their first 12 to 18 months of approval. Our carer training sessions are designed to contribute directly to that requirement.
SEND awareness An accessible introduction to the SEND system for carers at any stage of their fostering journey. What additional needs look like in practice, how schools identify and respond to them, and what carers can expect from the professionals around them.
Navigating schools Schools can feel like difficult territory for foster carers. This session covers how to build a productive relationship with a school, what to do when communication breaks down, and how to advocate effectively without escalation.
Understanding EHCPs What an EHCP is, what it should contain, and what it should do for a child. Carers leave this session able to read a plan critically and know whether it is working.
Supporting a child through the EHCP process A practical guide to the assessment and planning process from a carer’s perspective — what happens at each stage, what the carer’s role is, and how to stay informed and involved throughout.
Transitions Supporting children through placement moves, school moves, and the longer journey toward adulthood. What good transition planning looks like and how carers can make sure it happens.
