SEMH

Social, Emotional and Mental Health

One of the four broad areas of SEND need defined in the SEND Code of Practice. SEMH covers difficulties with emotional regulation, mental health, behaviour, and social interaction that affect a child’s ability to learn. The four areas of need are: Communication and Interaction; Cognition and Learning; Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH); and Sensory and Physical. Many children have needs that span more than one area, and an EHCP should reflect all relevant areas.
